Gas Leak Detection

Gas leaks within the home are never a problem to be taken lightly or put off. They can have harmful impacts on the home if left unresolved. If you smell a gas leak or suspect there is one within your home, it is important to take precautionary measures immediately to ensure the issue does not get out of hand.

  1. Turn off all gas appliances such as ovens, heaters and hot water systems and ensure there are no naked flames visible
  2. Turn off the gas at the supply source/meter
    • To do so, ensure all appliances are turned off
    • Locate your gas meter, which is generally in a metal box attached to the side of the house
    • Turn the meter off by rotating the valve 90 degrees so that it is in a horizontal position
  3. Open all doors and windows to ensure sufficient ventilation
